South Waikato Region
The South Waikato is comprised of four different townships, the largest of which is Tokoroa along with Putaruru, Arapuni, Tirau and, large farming, rural and forestry areas. The South Waikato has some of the largest plantation forests in the world along with the giant Kinleith pulp and paper mill which is sited approximately three kilometres south of Tokoroa. The area also has the largest and most modern cheese factory sited approximately five kilometres north of Tokoroa.
Tokoroa is situated in the central North Island area of New Zealand and has a population of approximately 14,500 with about 30,000 living in the district. New Zealand consists of two main islands, the North and South Islands, which are separated by the Cook Strait. Tokoroa is in such a position as to allow you to travel, within a one hour radius of the town, to beaches and snowy mountains, the famed Lake Taupo and a number of other lakes and the Waikato River. We also have such towns as Putaruru, Tirau, Cambridge, Matamata, Rotorua, and Taupo within that same one hour driving radius. The South Waikato District has a natural beauty and is split virtually in half between forestry with towering pines and dairy farming in the green rolling hills. The people here originate from over 25 different countries and are open and welcoming to cultural differences and new ventures.
